Today is the big day of the Apple March event, which is said to bring us a slew of new products. The star of the show will be the iPhone SE 3 or iPhone SE 2022, but there will also be a new tablet apparently, the iPad Air 5. It’s said to feature the Apple M1 processor.
The fifth gen iPad Air has been detailed just hours ahead of its debut by a source from Asia. The Korean blog Naver claims that the fifth gen iPad Air will have an Apple M1 chip inside and it will also be paired with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, as the base version. That’s an upgrade from the 64 GB of storage that the iPad Air 4 had. Also, sources claim that the iPad Air 5 will start at $599, which is by the way the starting price of the current model, in spite of offering double the storage.
The source previously claimed that Apple would launch a new iPad Mini with an 8.7 inch screen and a chassis that had a larger width and smaller height compared to the fifth gen iPad Mini in the second half of 2021. They didn’t get the display size right, but the chassis and launch time frame was on point. The iPad Air 5 is said to have a similar design with the iPad Mini, featuring an Apple A15 Bionic processor and 5G connectivity.
Adding the M1 CPU to the slate would make it cannibalize an iPad Pro, or maybe not, since it may lack the LiDAR thing, the ProMotion Mini LED display and all the bells and whistles. The M1 CPU is an 8 core affair with improvements from the A series chips.
