Just hours ago Apple started sending out press invites to an event taking place on the 16th, which is a week from now. It’s most likely an iPad and Mac event and the very much leaked iPad Air 2 may become real then. In the meantime we have more details about its RAM…
It would appear that a source called GeekBar posted on its Weibo account a picture of RAM memory made by ELPIDA, a Japanese company. They claim that the 2 GB ELPIDA RAM will come on the iPad Air 2, which is a feat we expected ever since August. GeekBar seems to be a reliable source, as for the Japanese firm, it’s in fact a corporation that was set up in 1999 and focuses on DRAM products.
They provide SDRAM components for the Apple A6 processor in the iPhone 5, so they’ve worked with Apple before. If the RAM on the new iPad Air gets a boost, why wouldn’t the CPU also jump from Apple A8 to A8x? I’ll remind you that last year’s version, the A7 was good enough for both iPads and iPhones, but this year’s model may be enhanced a bit.
