Following the problems with the Japanese manufacturers and plants and the huge demand for the iPad 2, Apple could be searching for new partners to end the shortage. Thus, it seems that Taiwanese LCD panel manufacturer AU Optronics Corp was approached by the Cupertino giant, who wants them to supply LCD displays for the iPad 2.

Optronics Corp is the fourth largest LCD panel maker in the world, so it’s a great partner to have these days. Could this mean the end of shortages, or other components under a similar stress? Right now, Apple promises to ship an iPad 2 unit in 3 to 4 weeks from the date of the order and many customers are still waiting their orders.

We wonder if Samsung and LGD, long time Apple partners won’t be displeased with their choice this time… With Hitachi and Toshiba having problems in Japan, the choice is pretty much limited, especially for a hardware giant in dire need of LCD units.
