Icarus Illumina XL is a new e-reader that relies on what seems to be a regular 8 inch screen, with a 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. In fact, this screen relies on an atypical technology called E-Ink Pearl with front illumination.
The device is priced at 199 euros and comes with modest specs, that are still good enough for an e-reader. Those include a dual core Cortex A9 processor, clocked at 1 GHz, 512 MB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a 2800 mAh battery. It supports WiFi and measures 9 mm in thickness, as well as weighs 275 grams.
The OS on this device is Android 4.2 and Illumina XL comes with support for a variety of e-reader apps like Kindle, Kobo, Nook, Aldiko, Skoobe and more. It also includes support for all the popular e-reading formats, ranging from CHM to DOC, DjVu, HTML, HTM, PDF, TXT, RTF and ePub. The device can be bought here at 199 euros.
