Up until now we’ve seen the Huawei Ascend Mate 6.1 inch device detailed/leaked twice on various sites, but now it’s time to have a look at some hands on pictures. This massive device looks kind of pretty, I have to say and it’s expected to be very popular during CES 2013 and MWC too.

Huawei’s newcomer incorporates a 6.1 inch 1080p display, plus a quad core CPU and a slightly rounded unibody chassis. This is a 1.8 GHz quad core smartphone, making it one of the most potent devices out there. It also has a 4000 mAh battery and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The rounded shape may make the device not sit well on a table, but at least in the user’s hand it will be OK. All of the latest Huawei handsets have adopted that camera styling that looks like the one on the HTC One X and I suppose this is their new design direction for the future.

I’m totally trying to avoid calling this device a “smartphone”, since it’s too big even by phablet standards. A few years ago it was normal to have a 3+ inch smartphone and everyone was happy with that. Now we’re passing 5 inches and people want more… and more and more.
