Once upon a time ASUS has planned a MeMo tablet with a 7 inch display, quad core CPU and affordable price tag. Switch to several months later, Google got hold of the project and created the highly successful Nexus 7 tablet with ASUS. Now HTC has been rumored to be making a phablet for a long time now and maybe Google will once again pull a Nexus move on them.
There’s a rumor saying that we may see the HTC One X 5 phablet with a 5 inch display getting turned into a new Google Nexus phone. That’s the latest update on the Fall Nexus release, that was supposed to be a collection of 5 new devices, if the rumors from months ago are to be believed. Anyway, we’re in dire need of a newcomer, either a phablet or a smartphone and frankly speaking a surprise 5 inch phablet with quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU sounds like a good idea.
In case you’re wondering, there’s an anonymous tipster who spoke to GSMArena and confirmed the HTC Nexus phablet with 5 inch display. The name will be HTC Nexus 5 and this is the same device rumored as HTC One X 5 or Droid Incredible X. It will have a Full HD 1080p screen resolution, the quad core Snapdragon S4 processor we wanted, a 12 megapixel camera at the back and a 2 megapixel front camera, plus a 2500 mAh battery. It will run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, although that may feel like a too small update.
This would make the device be the first smartphone (or close to it) with a Full HD screen in this diagonal range. Ready for a crazy shopping season this fall/winter?
