It’s not every day that we find a tablet that fits in the pocket and also offers solid gaming controls. This model is called the GPD Win Intel Z8550 and it’s a Windows 10 gaming console, that’s also a tablet. The product is crowdfunded via Indiegogo these days.
Originally, the project wanted to get $100,000 in funding and it’s now already at $400k, with 8 days left. Pledging $299 gets one of the GPD Win consoles, with shipping time estimated around October 2016. We’re dealing with a sort of thicker phablet, with a 5.5 inch display and a solid Intel Atom Cherry Trail X5-Z8500 processor.
The 5.5 inch display supports 720p resolution and the OS is Windows 10 here. We’ve got two joysticks integrated into the “base” portion, as well as a directional pad on the left, plus even a tiny keyboard and 4 action buttons. “Shoulder buttons” are available as regular buttons on the right and the whole thing feels like a bigger Nintendo DS.
Mini HDMI is in the mix, plus USB type C, TF card slot and R1/R2 and L1/L2 buttons. A mouse mode is also available here, using the L1 button for the left click and the R1 for right click. 4 GB of RAM are included here, plus 64 GB of storage and a 6000 mAh battery. I have to admit this sounds pretty tempting.
