As PC shipments are expected to drop 10.6% in 2013, the overall segment of main devices that allow computing (PC, tablet, phone) will grow by a total of 5.9% this year. Tablet shipments alone will bring a 67.9% increase.
The combined number of devices shipped this year is expected to be somewhere around 2.35 billion units. The market is pushed forward by tablets, smartphones and also ultramobiles, while PCs decline. PC shipments are forecast by Gartner to move 305 million units this year, a 10.6% decline from 2012.
Tablets will get to 202 million units shipped, while the phone market will have an impressive volume of 1.8 billion units. The demand for ultramobiles, which are basically thin and light clamshell PCs and hybrids with Windows 8 is also growing. People will upgrade from notebooks to such models, for more functionality.
This will also drive up the adoption of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 and the sales of new designs based on Intel’s Bay trail and Haswell processors.
