During today’s Computex 2014 event ASUS debuted the new FonePad 7 and FonePad 8 “phoneblets”, if we can call them that way. These are slates with phone calling abilities and designs that seem more like bigger phones than tablets.
First up is the ASUS FonePad 7 (FE375CG) model, with a 7 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display and a 64 bit Intel Atom Z3560 1.8 GHz quad core CPU. This CPU is also shared by the FonePad 8, that gets an 8 inch 1280 x 800 pixel display and both models come with 5 MP back cameras and 2 MP front shooters. They benefit from dual front speakers with SonicMaster technology and have built in phone and cellular 3G data features.
The smaller new FonePad weighs 299 grams, while the bigger one weighs 328 grams. Android 4.4 KitKat is the OS here, with the brand new ASUS Zen UI On top, with over 1000 software enhancements available. The FonePad series will be a dual SIM one and there will be black, white gold and red versions of the devices.
