Compal Electronics recently received orders for a cheap 10 inch tablet from Acer, with shipments predicted to start in August 2013, according to source within the Taiwanese supply chain.
Compal will also be responsible with making the 7 inch $150 Acer Iconia B1, that debuted in Q4 last year. First quarter shipments of that product have already increased 2.6-3 times sequentially already. Compal wasn’t alone in this, as they beat the company Wistron to win orders for Acer’s 10 incher, according to sources.
Wistron got the orders for Acer’s 7.9 inch Iconia A1-810, with shipments scheduled for June 2013. Compal is also responsible with the latest 7 inch Kindle Fire and the company’s aim this year is to ship between 8 and 10 million tablets, with shipments accounting for nearly 10% of consolidated revenus in Q1 2013.
