Well, don’t we humans love to imitate the nature when creating new technologies? This is also the case of Qualcomm’s new display technology called Mirasol and shown in action in the video at the end of this article. Mirasol uses “reflective bits of color”, in order to display an image, drawing its inspiration from the iridescent scales on butterfly wings.
The new system consumes less power than E-ink and the results are stunning, as shown by the prototype pictured above. Let’s just hope that we’ll also see such displays on bigger gadgets, since it shows promise. We wonder if the displays are hard to manufacture and if they cost a lot…
