I’d say that paying $50 for a tablet with a quad core CPU doesn’t sound bad, regardless of what the other specs are. It’s guaranteed to put a smile on a kid’s face and have him playing Angry Birds in no time. The Chuwi V17HD is such a tablet, priced at $48 and available in China.
It packs a 7 inch IPS display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution and inside we’ve got a quad core Rockchip RK3188 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz. Other features include Mali 400 graphics, 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, WiFi and a front webcam for video calls. Incredibly enough, this model seems to run Android 4.4 KitKat, or so say the people who know the product.
Keep in mind that we can’t guarantee that the RAM is actually 1 GB, since we could also see this model sold with just 512 MB of RAM. Of course, the iPad Mini is also doing just fine with the same amount of RAM, but this is no iPad, that’s for sure…
