Hearing about a 7 inch “phablet” instantly made the Byond Mi-Book Mi5 device interesting. This device is pictured below and it comes with a SIM slot, 2G calling and Android 4.0.4. It’s powered by a 1.2 GHz processor and it also has 512 MB of RAM, while its price tag is around $132, so it’s a very affordable slate.

Mi-Book Mi5 uses a 7 inch touchscreen with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and other features include 8GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot with support for an extra 32 GB of storage and a front video camera. Video calls only work on WiFi, since there’s no 3G supported here. Mi5 also comes with USB OTG for external 3G dongles, HDMI out, a 3.5 mm audio jack, Bluetooth and G sensor.

There’s also a 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery on board, supporting up to 6 hours of video streaming. The whole device is 11 mm thick and it weighs 348 grams. Byond’s tablet even comes with Google Play Store, a feature that’s lacking on some of the cheaper Android tablets out there. So, who wants a 7 inch phone tablet?
