Good news for those of you holding back from buying an Android slate till now: the ASUS Transformer Prime will be released on December 18th, or so says Best Buy. Who else to be more familiar with the matter than the retailer, honestly now? Let me remind those of you who don’t what this model is that this is the world’s first quad core tablet with Tegra 3 CPU.

The slate is listed on the “Order Details” page shown above and it comes loads of processing power, that will be helpful when playing with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, supposed to arrive on this device next year. Last I heard, Amazon canceled some of the orders for Prime tablets and their future owners were worried and angry. Lack of availability was mentioned, but Best Buy doesn’t seem to have that problem. ASUS US recently said that they plan to start shipping the device in the week of December 19th, so in about a week or so we should see the product hitting the States.

This official announcements fits with the one from Best Buy, so the Prime is a mere week away from the American public. Are we truly ready for a quad core tablet, that had some of its benchmarks showing it’s inferior even to the iPad 2? Maybe with Android 4.0 things will change, but the iPad 3 is pretty close and coming next Spring…
