Back at CES 2014, ASUS debuted a new PadFone, the Mini version. That ditches the combo of a 5+ inch smartphone and a 10 inch tablet and replaces it with a 4 inch handset and a 7 inch slate. We got some hands on quality time with the product at MWC 2014 and this ensued:
The handset part of the combo is very much a Zenfone 4, as far as design and specs are concerned, but don’t go trying to put the Zenfone 4 inside the Padfone Min slate, as it won’t work. In the video you can also see the brand new Zen UI, that looks very nice and it’s probably ASUS’s biggest success over the past months, in my book.
This model, the PadFone Mini was initially unveiled with a Snapdragon CPU, but this version relies on an Intel Atom Z3560, clocked at 1.6 GHz. It also comes with 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage and an 8 megapixel back camera. We get a microSD card slot as well and the handset part has a 1170 mAh battery, while the tablet part relies on a 2100 mAh unit.
