ASUS FonePad was one of the ASUS slates launched at MWC 2013 and one that we actually handled on the spot at the Barcelona event. Now the device is available worldwide and this model stands out because it can also be used as a phone. For now we unboxed it for you, but we’ll be back with a full review ASAP.

The device goes for $250 in the 8 GB version and our version was the one with 16 GB and no back camera. There are versions with back cameras out there on the international market. The slate measures 10.4 mm in thickness, weighs 340 grams and packs a 7 inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Other features include a 4270 mAh battery, good enough for 9 hours of talk, an Intel Atom Z2420 processor (single core 1.2 GHz), 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. AT the top of the device there’s a lid that hides the microSIM and microSD card slots. Finally, there’s a GPS on board, a 1.2 MP front camera, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, accelerometer and Android 4.1 as the OS.

We’ll be back soon with the detailed analysis!
