MWC 2013 is only a few weeks away and ASUS will be one of the big names present at the show. Now there’s a new product that has just leaked on the web, at least in name, the ASUS FonePad. Although it may sound like a PadFone with a messed up rebranding, this may end up being something else.
The tablet recently spotted in an online leak is actually dubbed ASUS Fonepad K004 and sadly we have no specs for it. Japanese site Ameblo found the codename on the Postel website, an Indonesian wireless certification authority, that usually handles products close to their launch time, sort of like the FCC does in USA. ASUS Fonepad K004 had its documents listed on January 30th 2013 and it belongs in the “Tablet PC” category. ASUS didn’t register this brand in either Europe or USA, for now.
The K004 codename is actually applied to a product we’ve already head of: the ASUS ME371MG, a 7 inch slate with Intel Atom Z2420 processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the OS. It features 1 GB of RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, GPS, WiFi + 3G and it will be available in at least two colors, grey and gold. The price tag of the device is supposed to be around 250, to 299 euro. So, is the Fonepad 7 actually the ME371MG with Intel CPU or a new model? We’ll have to wait for MWC 2013 to find out…
