Here’s a new tablet for kids, one made by Archos and priced very well, at $130. This budget model was first showcased in March and now it hits the market with this price tag. Named Child Pad, this Archos tablet is intended for kids and it comes with heavy parental control.
There’s also a bundled 6 month free subscription to the Mobile Parental Filter application. Archos Child Pad runs Android 4.0 ICS and has some kid-oriented content, like wallpapers, movies and games, most of them based on the Alvin & The Chipmunks 3 cartoon. The specs of the device include an ARM Cortex A8 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and 4GB of storage, plus a microSDHc card slot. As far as visuals go, kids get a 7 inch 800 x 480 pixel display, that was initially announced as a resistive screen and ended up as a capacitive one.
Archos Child Pad measures 12.7 mm in thickness and weighs 362 grams. It supports WiFi connectivity, has a front webcam and even supports 1080p full HD video playback. Since it’s summer and there’s no reason to spend money on schoolbags, books and whatever kids use in school, you may just go ahead and buy the little guy this tablet.
