There aren’t many 13 inch Android tablets out there… actually it’s only the Toshiba Excite 13 model I know of. Well, now there’s one more: the Archos Arnova FamilyPad. This one packs a 13 inch display and runs Android 4.0 ICS. The product is due for release in about a month or two and there’s already a video of the slate posted below.
The 13.3 inch display seems huge, but it gets a resolution of just 1280 x 800 pixels, that I find underwhelming. Rumors say that Archos is also prepping a FamilyPad with an improved resolution, of 1,440 x 900 pixels. Other specs include a 1 GHz Allwinner A10 ARM Cortex A8 processor, most likely a single core affair, as well as 1 GB of RAM and a Mali 400 MP GPU. Android 4.0 ICS should make the tablet run smoothly, although Jelly Bean would have been more welcome.
Other features include two USB ports, a mini HDMi port, a microSD card slot and dual 2 MP cameras on the front and back. The on board storage is 8 GB and the battery life is around 8 to 10 hours when watching video and 5-6 hours in web browsing mode, according to Archos. The price tag is speculated to be around $300.
