Today is September 10th, the day of the big event that Apple organized to debut its new iPhones. They announced today the iPhone 5S and the iPhone 5C, with the latter not being as cheap as estimated. People were hoping to see a $300 to $400 handset, but in the end we’re stuck with an iPhone 5C that goes for $550.
The handset is basically a colored iPhone 5 with a plastic case and that’s it. It goes for $99 on 2 a year contract and it will debut on September 20th in the initial wave of countries, that this time includes China. iPhone 5C packs an Apple A6 CPU, 8 MP camera with LED flash and a 4 inch Retina display, plus 16 GB of storage.
It also has a Facetime HD camera and moving to the iPhone 5S, the handset brings 3 new aspects that matter: the 64 bit Apple A7 processor, a premiere for a smartphone, an 8 megapixel dual LED camera and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the sapphire crystal Home button. The iPhone 5S runs iOS 7, packs 16 GB of storage and by the way the CPU inside is still a dual core unit, albeit a 64 bit one. We’ve got a coprocessor dubbed the M7, that will process the sensor data that the device gathers.
The price tag is $200 for the iPhone 5S on two year contract and the device is also able to do 120 FPS 720p video capture and 10 frames per second burst shots. By the way, the event today was very short for an Apple gathering, so we expect a “to be continued” next month, with fresh iPads.
