A fresh picture of the iPad 5, coming straight out of China is showing us what we already expected: the integration of a Touch ID fingerprint scanner on the device. The iPad 5, the latest flagship slate with a 9.7 inch diagonal is expected to debut next week, according to rumors.
The device was said to get the Touch ID technology from the iPhone 5s for a while now. There was even a lucky owner of iPad 5 panels and components who dissected an iPhone 5s and saw that the handset’s Home button and Touch ID fit within the iPad 5 Home button hole. We have all the proof we need and all that’s missing now is the official confirmation of the feature.
The iPad 5 is expected to adopt the iPad Mini design, with a less curved back, a narrower side bezel and a more compact case. The device would also get an Apple A7 or A7x CPU, improved back camera and slimmer chassis. Hopefully Apple will also find a way to make this fingerprint scanning method less hackable.
