In case you didn’t know, Google and Motorola have a nifty surprise for you this weekend, if you’re the owner of a Motorola Xoom tablet, Family Edition included. After a long wait, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is finally available as an update for the slate, actually the first slate that started the Honeycomb trend and its disappointing experience. Well, ICS is here to correct it…

Motorola Xoom owners will get Android 4.0.3, and this officially marks the start of the craziness of all upgrades. Knowing Moto as well as I do, I’d say that in the next week devices such as the Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola Droid RAZR and a couple of other devices will get Android Ice Cream Sandwich. In only one week two important tablets, the first Xoom and the Transformer Prime have received the latest Android, a sign that Google and its partners are moving fast this time.

Expect a full rollout during the weekend and people who already got it are saying that the Xoom feels like “a brand new tablet”, so there’s really something to be gained from the upgrade to ICS. Keep in mind that this update only applies to WiFi Xoom units only and the LTE units will have to be taken care of by Verizon.
