Amazon refreshed this week its Echo Show series of smart speakers with screens, unveiling new Echo Show 5 and Echo Show 8 models. There’s also a new option for Kids. Keep in mind we’re talking about a hybrid here, between a classic speaker and a sort of tablet, on account of the embedded screen.
The 3 newcomers are Amazon Echo Show 8 (2021), Amazon Echo Show 5 (2021) and Echo Show 5 Kids (2021). The new Amazon Echo Show 8 has a 13 megapixel wide angel camera, that’s able to pan digitally and zoom during a video call to keep you in frame. There’s also an 8 inch HD display with adaptive color, dual stereo speakers and a new octa core processor. The best thing is that the starting price is great: $129.99. The resolution is 1280 x 800 pixels and we’ve got dual speakers and audio output. A physical shutter for the camera is here for those concerned with privacy. Amazon Alexa is here as the voice assistant. A 110 degree field of view is available for this product.
The new Echo Show 5 packs an upgraded HD camera and also arrives with a wider variety of colors, plus a lower price tag. The upgrades here aren’t as significant as those from the 8 inch model. Compared to the predecessor, this 5 inch display speaker packs a 2 megapixel camera, an upgrade from the predecessor’s 1 MP sensor. It also comes in blue. It’s priced at merely $85 and offers a 960 x 480 pixel resolution.
The new Echo Show 5 Kids is $95. This version comes with parental controls, curated content, a colorful design and a worry free guarantee, which keeps it safe in the hands of kids.
These products will be released on June 9th 2021 and several discounts of $20 or more will be applied to the current gen models.
