Amazon is having its usual autumn blowout, by launching a few products today, including a new software platform for slates. They debuted the Fire OS 4 aka Sangria, that is based on Android 4.4 KitKat and it keeps the unique Amazon design
You won’t even tell you’re using Google’s platform, since the homescreen and all the settings panels and components are all Amazon material. There’s the app, music, video and book store at the forefront, obviously. Fire OS 4 Sangria will come with the 4th gen Kindle Fire tablets, being made available as a free OTA update for the third gen tablets. Fire OS 4 offers support for profiles, enabling various members of a family to gain access to their own homescreens, Facebook or Twitter accounts.
All of them will be on the same tablet, but they will be better organized. Fire OS also includes ASAP (Advanced Streaming and Prediction), that predicts the movies and TV episodes you will want to watch and starts them instantly. There’s also Smart Suspend, that creates a device-specific profile for when the slate is not in use and it will also turn the wireless off, in order to increase standby life.
