Amazon has patented an interesting technology that has to do with 3D object matching and it’s supposed to make its way to some future smartphone that the company is readying. The sketches below are pretty clear on that matter.
It was rumored before that Amazon was preparing some sort of image recognition feature that allows users of the smartphone to take a pic of a real world object and match it to an object on Amazon. Then a purchase mechanism will be triggered and we expect this concept to also make it to the tablets.
The Amazon patent application is called “User guided object identification”, allowing users to take a photo of a book, toy, videogame and such and then log into the shopping area. I’m pretty sure that this thing has been done before, but not by the owner of a huge retail chain…
