Amazon prefers to launch new e-readers at the weirdest times and one would expect them in the fall or winter, but come came today out of nowhere. Amazon Kindle Oasis (2019) is here, with a revamped backlight, easier on the eyes.

Kindle Oasis eBook Reader has a brand new Paperwhite display with a pixel density of 300 ppi. It’s also IPx8 rated, meaning it’s fully waterproof and can be used in the pool or bath. The best new feature is the special warm backlight, that goes from white to amber in the dark, in order not to strain the eyes. The product goes on preorder right now and it’ll be available from July 24.

The product is thin and light and it has turn page buttons. It’s also supposed to read like real paper, with the latest E-Ink technology, for fast page turns. It also works with Audible and pairing with Bluetooth headphones, or speakers, to alternate between reading and listening. You can schedule the warmer tone of the screen, in a manual cycle in order to coincide with sunrise and sunset.

This third gen Amazon Kindle Oasis is virtually the same as the older model, which is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s packing the same 7 inch 300 ppi E Ink display at its core, offers a one handed design and waterproofing. It also has microUSB, not USB-C. The price is $249.99 for the 8 GB model and $279.999 for the 32 GB versions.

Preorders are available here.
