The big day finally came and we got to see the Amazon Kindle Fire tablet, after many weeks of rumors and speculations. The slate was announced just hours ago and it will be priced at $199, but there’s an aspect worth mentioning here: Bloomberg reported details about the device a bit before its announcement, so that may have been a wrong move in case a non disclosure agreement was in place.

Kindle Fire is a 7 inch tablet without 3G or microphone, also without a camera, but it comes with WiFi and a 30 day trial of Amazon Prime. Performing the announcement of the product was Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO, who detailed the specs of the Kindle Fire, that will come with a Gorilla Glass display based on IPS technology and a TI OMAP4 dual core processor.

The tablet is supposed to measure 413 grams and it supports a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, while maintaining a 11.5mm waistline. There’s also 8GB of built in storage and its battery will provide 8 hours of reading and 7.5 hours of video playback (with WiFi off). As far as software goes, Amazon announced that it has smoothed the rough edges of Android to make it more user-friendly and also connected to the content library offered by the famous retailer.

Amazon App Store is also included, having now reached over 10k applications and also in the mix there’s a very fast web browser, that relies on the Amazon EC2 cloud computing engine. You’ll also have a cloud backup solution, so you can back up your stuff the cloud if the need arises. Expect a US release of the product on November 15th and a price tag of 199.
