Amazon debuted this week a new Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, that brings forth several improvements, including USB-C and optional wireless charging. It also increases diagonal size and provides a brighter screen panel.
This is the first Kindle device with an USB-C port on board and it’s up for preorder today at $140. It should start shipping October 27th and we also learn that there’s a new Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition coming, with 4 times more store and also wireless charging. That one is priced at $190. The new PaperWhite has a starting price that’s $10 higher than what you spent on the predecessor.
This new model has a 6.8 inch display, slimmer bezels and also 17 LED lights. Meanwhile, the 2019 model has a 6 inch screen and 5 LED lights. The new Paperwhite also has support for color temperature adjustments, which lets you reduce the blue light emitted by the lights. Brightness is said to be 10% higher when the lights are all the way up. The new Paperwhite has 9W charging and it’s more charger friendly thanks to the USB-C port on board.
Amazon also promises 20% faster performance. It all weighs 7.23 ounces and measures 0.32 inches in thickness. The entry level version comes with 8 GB of storage and ads on the lockscreen, which can be removed if you pay $20.
The Signature Edition comes with 32 GB of storage, has wireless charging and also has a $30 charging dock sold separately. This one also brings an ambient light sensor for automatic frontlight adjustments.
Then there’s a new Kindle Paperwhite Kids Edition, priced at $160. It comes in more color options, has a 2 year worry free warranty and a 1 year subscription to Amazon Kids+.
