More details about Amazon’s future initiative have surfaced, after we learned a while ago that they might launch as much as 4 tablets, plus a smartphone. Analysts, developers and partners in the retail area have predicted those things ahead of the results from next week the big retailer has huge plans, that even include up to 6 tablet SKUs.
Demos Parneros is the one with the bold claims and he’s the president of US Retail for Staples Inc, who sells the Fire, so he knows what’s talking about. The tablet will be varied in diagonal size, ranging from a 10 inch model to 7 inches and perhaps other formats as well. The software platform on the tablets is the real money maker, offering digital content to over 100 million owners of credit cards, all of them customers ready for work with Amazon. Glu Mobile’s Niccolo de Masi is excited about the opportunity to sell games through the new devices and who wouldn’t, since the first Kindle Fire was very popular and pushed a lot of apps out there.
Purchases of Amazon e-books surged after the debut of the Kindle e-reader in 2007 and now with a smartphone also coming, who knows what other segment they’ll pull out of the rusty decay. The music industry is suffering now, so maybe Amazon can help out. The video market has also increased thanks to Amazon, with Amazon’s video market climbing to 13% from 10%. The music downloads reached 14.4% of the total market for Amazon, according to NPD data. And that was all generated by a single tablet model! Imagine what would happen if several tablets and a phone came out…
