During a special announcement from yesterday, Amazon also unveiled the Fire Kids Edition tablet, a dedicated device for the little ones in our families. Apparently, this new slate uses a specially-crafted web browser that has been automatically locked down with safe content. Also, there’s a list with those safe sites available to view.

Carolyn Bunting, from Internet Matters, a specialist guidance website, said the following: “The first and foremost danger is the amount of inappropriate content — be it porn or violence or self-harm guidance that parents don’t want their children to see”.

In order to achieve this, Amazon said that this issue gets around by pre-approving thousands of safe sites and videos to take the effort away from time-stressed parents. Fire Kids provides controlled access to a huge number of hand-curated, age-appropiate websites and YouTube videos, content free of charge.

If you want to buy it, well, the Amazon Fire Kids Edition will cost you $155, the tablet arriving in two different colors: pink and blue. The shipping program starts on September 30th.
