Alcatel has just unveiled a new tablet for kids, that has a rugged design. The newcomer is dubbed Alcatel Joy Tab Kids and comes with entry level specs. I should probably mention that the product is made by TCL, who licenses the Alcatel brand.

The Alcatel Joy Tab Kids comes with an 8 inch HD screen, protected by strong Asahi Glass, in order to prevent cracks or scratches. There’s also a silicone case in the mix for the body’s protection and it’s quite colorful, in order to appeal to the little ones. The screen provides a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and other specs include a quad core MediaTek MT8765A processor, clocked at 1.5 GHz, plus 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.

There’s a microSD card slot here and a 4080 mAh battery, with the promise of 8.5 hours of WiFi video streaming. Audio output is done via a 1W speaker and there’s also an audio jack. The device has quite the generous connectivity, with WiFi, 4G LTE, GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 and a microUSB port. Alcatel Joy Tab Kids runs on Android 9.0 Pie, with the Kidomi platform on top.

It includes content from DreamWorks, Crayola and Toca Boca. There interactive games for juniors like Transformers, Peppa Pig and My Little Pony ones. There’s also parental control and privacy control, plus time limits applied by parents.

T-Mobile will be selling the device from November 15th. Sadly we have no price yet.
