Honor is gearing up to launch the successor to last year’s MagicPad 2, and the MagicPad 3 could make its official debut by the end of this month. According to a fresh leak out of China, the new tablet will deliver some major performance upgrades—but with one controversial compromise: a switch from OLED to LCD.
The MagicPad 3 will reportedly feature a 13.2-inch LCD panel with a high refresh rate, though the exact figure isn’t confirmed. Given that the MagicPad 2 sported a 144Hz display, it’s likely that Honor will maintain or even improve that spec. The bigger news is under the hood: the tablet is said to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a massive 1TB of internal storage. That puts it firmly in flagship territory, especially for productivity-focused users.
While the move to an LCD panel may raise eyebrows—particularly among creatives and media consumers—the shift is reportedly tied to keeping the tablet’s price accessible. It’s a curious decision considering the MagicPad 2 came with an OLED screen, which offered deeper blacks and better contrast. However, the MagicPad 3 gains a slightly larger display and significantly faster internals, which could make it a more capable device overall.
Honor is expected to offer the MagicPad 3 in three color options: Moon Shadow White, Floating Gold, and Starry Sky Gray. The tablet will support 66W fast charging, matching its predecessor in charging speed. With pricing and launch date details still under wraps, it remains to be seen whether Honor can justify the screen downgrade with its other improvements—or if fans will hold out for a more premium panel experience.
