Samsung has started sending media invites for an upcoming event that involves a new rugged tablet coming from the South Korean device maker. It’s the Galaxy Active Tab 2, that will arrive with military specs in India on February 14th. We have details below.
The product is MIL-STD 810G certified, plus IP68 dust and water resistant. Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 has been launched in the USA using the same tagline teased for India: “Make Hard Look Easy”. Interestingly, the slate is listed in the Business area of the Samsung site, so it may not be intended for the average consumer.
Galaxy Tab Active 2 comes in WiFi and LTE versions in USA, packing an 8 inch TFT display, with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution. Inside we find the Samsung Exynos 7870 processor, 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage. There’s also a microSD card slot and we sure hope that the Android 7.1 Nougat software of the US version has been bumped up to Oreo at least.
Other features include an 8 megapixel main camera and a front 5 MP shooter with face unlock. There’s also a fingerprint sensor for extra security. Samsung claims that this product can survive for half an hour in five foot deep water. It also comes with S Pen support, AR features and a 4450 mAh removable battery, good enough for 11 hours of usage apparently. You can also hook up a keyboard via POGO pins.
