Verizon has just started offering a fresh update for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 tablets on its network. The key novelty here is the fact that it receives HDR support for Netflix streaming.
The latest software version is NRD90M.T827VVRU1AQJ3 and it includes a fix for the fingerprint setup wizard, plus Android security fixes for October. Since it’s an OTA update, it could take a while before it reaches all devices. The above mentioned security fixes address no less than 6 patches for security exploits, all found in Samsung’s proprietary skin on top of Android.
Verizon subscribers may choose between a few methods of installing the software. There’s one option that lets users wait for notifications to arrive on the devices, saying that the update can be installed. Then there’s the option to trigger the update manually, by going to Software Updates, in the Settings area. Or they can connect the slate to their PC and use the proprietary Samsung software tool. A backup is, as usual recommended. Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 relies on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and it’s still a pretty powerful machine, with a great Super AMOLED screen and AKG acoustics, so its newfound HDR Netflix streaming is a big plus.
