Qualcomm and Microsoft are working together on launching the next Windows 10 on ARM platform, with device makers also involved. It seems that even though there’s at least a Snapdragon 835 laptop in the making, Snapdragon 845 is the chip to look out for the real introduction of the platform.
We knew that Qualcomm was working on the Snapdragon 845 for a while now, but now we get some extra proof. We’re talking about a document that surfaced as part of the legal battle of Qualcomm with Apple and it was taken down in the meantime. It shows a listing of the chip maker’s processors and you can check out the list below. Aside from all the chips we know already, there’s also the Snapdragon 845, plus other newcomers like the Snapdragon 440, Snapdragon 652 and Snapdragon 653.
The future flagship chipset is expected to feature 4 Cortex A75 cores, 4 Cortex A53 cores and it’ll probably debut next year, maybe at CES 2017 or MWC 2017. As OEMs launch their first Windows 10 on ARM devices this year with Snapdragon 835 chipsets, it’s clear that the next generation of processor will also power similar devices. Qualcomm is said to be packing in special enhancements for the Windows 10 on ARM platform, for improved performance on the would be PCs.
Since we’ve heard that the Snapdragon 820 and 835 already got close to Core i3 level if not better, mobile chips are playing catchup with desktop ones in quite a fast manner.
