Alcatel and its parent company, TCL are prepping to release a new tablet dubbed Xess on the US market on April 22nd. In fact this model was showcased at CES in January and it’s promoted as a kitchen slate. The price tag is $500.

This is a large touch PC basically, that will work as a control center for the home. It’s also more of household item, than a regular tablet and its design is certainly atypical. Inside the Xess we find a 1.5 GHz MediaTek processor, together with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage, expandable by up to 64 GB of extra storage.

Upfront we’ve got a 17.3 inch Full HD screen and a 3 watt JBL dual speaker system. Xess integrates a 9600 mAh battery and a quick release magnetic charger port, so one won’t trip over the device and take it down. The product includes an IP camera, that can be placed anywhere in the home and be used to monitor children from the tablet or from a smartphone.

The US version will also be bundled with Viacom children’s programming like Noggin or more Nickelodeon content.
