Panasonic debuted a new Toughbook today, but it’s not a laptop per se, but rather a convertible 2 in 1 device. The product is named Toughbook CF-MX4 and it’s based on the Intel Core i5-5300U processor.
It also brings its own stylus and there’s Windows 8.1 Pro on board, a 12.5 inch IPS Full HD screen and HDMI. LAN, VGA, SD card and two USB 3.0 ports make the package sound even better. The Toughbook offers 13 hours of fun, but the battery is actually hot-swappable, so you can use a spare unit if need be. The product comes at the end of the current month in stores priced at $2264.
CF-MX5 also comes in 4 GB of RAM or 8 GB versions, as well as 128 GB or 256 GB SSDs. In spite of its rugged nature, the Panasonic Toughbook newcomer manages to be relatively slim, at 21 mm in thickness and a weight of 1.14 kg. There’s a special magnesium alloy employed here, called UHD alloy. It combines carbon and magnesium for a new, tough and rugged material.
This model has been tested to fall from 76 cm and 100 kgf of pressure have been applied to it.
