If I remember correctly, one or two MWC or CES editions ago ZTE debuted some slates, to modest acclaim. Today they launched a new model, the zPad, that’s aimed at competing with the likes of the iPad Mini, particularly if we judge it by design.

The zPad has an 8 inch IPS LCD screen and a golden hue applied to its case. It also comes with 4G LTE connectivity, a 1.2 GHz quad core processor and 1 GB of RAM. There’s also 8 GB of storage, a microSD card slot and a camera with flash at the back. The product is 7.9 mm thick and adopts a premium matte finish, as well as a pretty low weight of 320 grams.

There’s an 8 inch display here with a modest resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and the two cameras included on board are a 2 MP shooter upfront and a 5 MP one out back. ZTE zPad packs a 4000 mAh battery and the slate doesn’t have a launch date or price just yet. It’s meant for China only initially.
