Intel has unveiled a new wave of processors, 64 bit ones for tablets and phones, from the Atom series. The newcomers are the models formerly known as Merrifield and Moorefield, now turned into Atom Z3480 and Z3580 respectively.
The first is a dual core chip based on a 22 nm processor and it involves a PowerVR G6400 GPU and optimization for the Intel XMM 7160 TE modem. The Atom Z3580 is optimized for the Intel XMM 7260 LTE platform with Category 6 LTE speeds. Among the Intel partners that will launch products with the dual core 64 bit Atom there’s ASUS and Lenovo, with releases planned for early Q2.
You should know that the Intel Z3480 Merrifield comes with support for the likes of 13 megapixel cameras, LPDDR3 memory up to 4 GB, USB 3.0, eMMC 4.5, Android 4.4.2, 1080p 60 FPS video recording and playback. We’ve also got support for H.265, VP9 and Bluetooth 4.0 low energy, plus DRM and Intel WiDi.
