The Sony Xperia Z Ultra was huge for a smartphone, but still people called it that. Now we may get a WiFi only version that can stick to being called a tablet, because that’s what it actually is.
The 6.4 inch Full HD device has been spotted in a WiFi only version at the FCC and the sketch below proves it. The new model keeps WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, but it doesn’t have cellular capabilities. It can’t make or receive calls via cellular network and it doesn’t support 2G, 3G or 4G connectivity. The FCC listing doesn’t mention the Xperia Z Ultra name, but we figured that out by ourselves.
An interesting speculation is that this unit may actually arrived under a different branding, maybe being sold as a Walkman of sorts, which would be pretty smart, considering Walkmans are media consumption devices. Fingers crossed for this model to keep the high end specs of the original, including the Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage, plus microSD slot.
