If you want to have a spin with the thinnest tablet in the world, you can find it in Barcelona, at the MWC 2013 Sony booth. I find it very hard to remember any sub 8 mm thick tablets, let alone 7 mm. Well, here comes Sony with a 6.9 mm thick slate, breaking all the patterns we know. This device was announced at CES 2013 and showcased and launched at MWC 2013, where we got some quality time with it, through a booth presentation.

The device is water resistant and sturdy, in spite of being only 495 grams heavy and being so thin. Sony finally gives up that folded magazine design that we didn’t quite like and goes back to the rectangle with a shiny glossy and glassy facade. This is a 10.1 inch slate with a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU inside and a Full HD resolution. This product is 1.09 pounds heavy, so once again impressive, especially for a 10.1 inch model.

It has a plastic chassis that makes it feel a bit cheap, but that’s a matter of preferences and taste in the end, although we would have liked a metal plate at the back. The device has 3 ports on its body: audio jack, microSD card slot and microUSB connection, also used for MHL purposes. All of them have covers that seal them, so you can dunk the device in water.

The device can be sunken in up to 3 feet of water for up to 30 minutes. Xperia Tablet Z ships with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will support an upgrade to Android 4.2. The price is $499 for the basic version.
