While at first sight this may look like a bigger PS Vita, it’s in fact a fresh tablet from Archos dubbed GamePad. This model brings physical controls and a 7 inch display, that makes Gameloft titles such as Asphalt 7 look great. Its specs include a 1.5 GHz dual core processor and a Mali 400 MP quad core GPU.
The device has official Google licensing, so it provides full access to Google Play Store, both to apps and media (music, magazines, books, movies). Archos promises compatibility with every advanced Android game, automatic game recognition and mapping tools. The device ships with Android 4.0 ICS, the first version of the OS to get game controller support in the software framework. Archos GamePad works with virtual controls, the standard control method of the Android games, this time mapped to the physical control buttons of the tablet.
At the start the slate gets over one thousand compatible games and as you can see Asphalt 7 is being advertised here. The device will be available starting October with a sub 150 euro price tag. If you add an extra 100 you can get a PS Vita… quite cheap, right?
