Samsung must have tried to make each and every format of phone and tablet out there, except for one: the clamshell, at least in the bigger diagonal segment. Now following the footsteps of Sony and its Tablet P model, perhaps even borrowing a bit from the Nintendo DS, Samsung is rumored to be making a clamshell Galaxy Tab.
We’ve already got 5 inch, 7 inch, 7.7, 8.9 and 10 inch tablets from the company, so nothing can amaze us any more. The design you see patented here relies on dual 7 inch screens and the result may look something like two Kindle Fire units united through a hinge. I’d supposed they were thinner, obviously, since you wouldn’t want a giant device in your bag. There’s also an interesting remote shown near the slate, that’s hidden inside the hinge of the device when you fold it up and travel.
For those of you doubting that Samsung will try yet another tablet format, you shouldn’t since nobody though Samsung would try the 8.9 and 7.7 inch areas and still they did. Right now they don’t have any rivals on this market, since the Kyocera Echo and Sony Tablet S were not well received by the public. Unless HTC or LG decide to launch a similar device, they’re safe on this niche. I wonder if they’ll have enough apps to run on a dual 7 inch display…
