We’ve been hearing quite a bit about the rumored Google Nexus Tablet lately and the latest info about is that it may in fact be the MeMo tablet made by ASUS and shown at CES 2012, but in a rebranded version. That 7 incher model was supposedly scrapped and replaced with the Google Nexus Tablet. And now it appears that the Tegra 3 CPU won’t be making an appearance on the device, according to an anonymous supply chain source.
That source is based in the USA and reports that Google decided to give up on the Tegra 3 quad core solution and go with a yet unnamed solution. The good news here is that this will take the price even lower, so the product will cost somewhere between $149 to $199, instead of $199 to $249. As I said, little is known about the tablet, other than the ASUS involvement and the supposed MeMo 370T relation. If the info about the Tegra 3 axe is real, then the $149 might happen and the Amazon Kindle Fire will finally be undercut from its $199 price tag.
Speculations say that the replacement CPU is a Snapdragon most likely, considering the relations between Qualcomm and ASUS. The same supply chain source says that for now the name of the product remains Nexus Tablet, although that may change when the product is officially launched. The slate could debut in May, sporting Android 4.0 ICS, but we might also get a surprise and see it taking off with Android 5.0 Jelly Bean. People also expect an announcement of this tablet at CTIA Wireless that takes place in New Orleans, between May 8 and the 10th.
