Toshiba AT200 is a tablet that drew everyone’s attention, because of its incredible waistline: a mere 7.7mm. Now, before we get all excited about it, know that this product has been delayed till early 2012, so no reason to rejoice just yet. This is the follow-up to the Toshiba Thrive, a tablet I played with and that really disappointed me.
Toshiba AT200 was seen and tested at IFA 2011 and people were impressed, although the device gave up on the full size SD and USB ports from the predecessor. The mini versions are still here, HDMI included and people are saying that production problems are to blame for the delay of the device’s launch till next year. The info about the postponed debut comes from Toshiba’s German page in Europe, so it’s as official as it gets.
I have to mention that although the AT200 is thin, it’s not as light as another very thin tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. The latter weighs 0.73 lbs, while the new Toshiba unit is a fatty, at 1.2 lbs. There’s also a front 2 megapixel camera, 5MP cam at the back and a brushed gray aluminum back case to cover them all.
