The latest Gartner figures have shown that there were 195 million tablets sold in 2013, with Android clearly on top of the iPad. The Google platform got a 62% share of the market, beating the iOS large screen devices.
Android was equated with 121 million tablets last year, while Apple moved 70 million units, to get a 36% share. A year before Apple led the tablet category with almost 53% of sales on 61 million units, while Android was at 46% with 53 million units. The low end small screen tablets are a big generator of sales these days, among first time buyers, said Gartner.
Amazon was supposed to be a big deal these days, but they lost power a bit. Their sales were up by 2 million, reaching 9 million units, but the overall market share declined to 4.8% from 6.6% in 2012. Apple is still the top tablet maker, with 36%, followed by Samsung with 19% and meanwhile Microsoft is somewhere at the back with a 2.1% of total purchases.
