Walmart is taking preorders of the XO Tablet now, with the 7 inch slate being a project of the One Laptop Per Child organization. The idea is to create an affordable slate for all kids, focusing on educational software.


The product’s available for preorder with a price tag of $149 and the table will ship on August 1st. The XO Tablet comes with a 7 inch screen, WiFi, a removable rubberized case, it runs Android and supports Play Store apps. The XO Tablet has a custom UI and software specifically created for kids and parents.

The default software offers users access to videos, games, books and other software. There’s a Journal app in the mix, allowing parents to see just how much time they spend with the little ones or doing certain activities. The XO Tablet comes with parental controls and support for up to 3 user profiles per device.

The tablet has a 1 GHz Marvell Armada CPU, 512 MB of RAM, 4 GB of storage and a 7 inch 1024 x 600 pixel display.
