Microsoft is rumored to be pushing the arrival of Windows 8.1 Update 3, that’s supposed to bring back a start menu of sorts. This feature has been requested by a lot of users and Microsoft is certainly the type of company to cave to demands, since they also did that with the Start button, bringing it back.
The problem is that the delay of the third Win 8.1 update will also affect the launch timeline for Windows 9. Theoretically, this release should have been ready for an April 2015 presentation at BUILD. Windows 8.1 Update 3 will arrive in Spring 2015, including a Start menu, that was actually meant to be included in Windows 8.1 Update 2. Initially Spring 2015 was the debut period of Windows 9, but that’s been pushed back to Q2 or even as far as Q3 next year.
In the meantime, Update 2 will come free of charge to Windows 8.1 Update 1 users and other Windows owners will get it an affordable price. Windows 9 may also come free of charge for people running Win 8.1 Update 3. Win 9 is said to be bring cross platform integration with Windows Phone and Xbox One. We’ll have to wait and see…
