Many non tech companies have started making tablets out of the blue and Walmart joins them now. One of the companies with the most employees in the world, the firm confirmed plans to launch an Android tablet meant to compete with the affordable iPads.

The insiders claim that the new slate will be kid-friendly and sold under the “ONN” store brand. Walmart has confirmed plans of the sort, but didn’t offer any details about, nor a price or launch date. Walmart already has electronics under the ONN brand, but usually it’s accessories, like headphones. Sources say that company is planning to get into electronics more seriously and also home items.

Since the device competes with the 9.7 inch $329 iPad, it’s very likely a 9 or 10 inch model priced at around $300 or less. It’ll also go against the Amazon Fire tablets, Samsung’s slates and other rivals. A kid friendly tablet is also on the table, possibly with parental controls, protection features, timers and more.

Well, at least if the device doesn’t sell, Walmart can give it to its 2.2 millions of employees.
