The figures that Digitimes Research compiled have shown that tablet AP shipments are expected to grow 18.6% sequentially, in the second quarter of the year, reaching about 29 million units.
The demand of the end market is recovering and although tablets have had a rocky 2015 beginning, the bumpy times will be gone soon. The top 3 suppliers from the Chinese AP market, MediaTek, Rockchip and Intel will stand for 59.1% of the tablet AP shipments in the second quarter. That’s 0.8% less than in the previous quarter, but the order stays unchanged, with Intel still the third largest supplier of tablet APs.
The Chinese tablet ecosystem is close to maturing and the market registers a very solid competition. Demand for tablets won’t see much growth, though. Compared to the second quarter of 2014, the tablet AP shipments to China dropped 6.4%. Mediatek showed signs of decline in Q1, but now it’s expected to get a solid boost, thanks to the increased customers’ demands.
Their share will still drop from 24.3% in China to 23.9% in the second quarter.
